3. Security
We have seen some new result from the police anti terrorist work. Several cells have been revealed and terrorist suspects killed. Some suspicion on the timing, but in the total, I would argue that it shows that the government is determined to ensure safety and security. There has been no hotspots, only some demonstrations against the incidents in the middle east, which really is routine here. The demonstrations is still peaceful and there is really nobody that can be seen as a valid target for the demonstrations. I talked to one of the leaders of these demonstrations and he said that it maybe would be good with an Israeli embassy since it would make it easier to target the demonstrations. Interesting reason for diplomatic relations...
Many expats will leave the country for holidays during June and as usual, there are some things to think of. Ensure you have house in order, domestic staff paid and no valuables left in an empty house. It is always a good idea to have a friend or colleague keeping an eye on your stuff while you are away. It is so depressing to come back to a ransacked home after a nice holiday.
Latest statistics on crime doesn't give us any surprises, except the fact that there is an increased amount of disappeared people. It is always sad when people vanish, but there are no indications of crimes in many of the cases. There are lack of transparency in the people registration and many times people just want to vanish due to debts and personal problems. Be aware to keep track of your family and staff.
The Jakarta census is also something that is going on in June. Try to follow your immigration documentation when you fill this is. There are no use of the data to check you up, but the people that make the census might have something on their own in mind. A uniform doesn't mean that the person is honest...
